La Thuile: Skiing, Shopping and Eating near Courmayeur

La Thuile, which was formerly a mining town, is now a purpose built ski-resort, with a mix of old and new.  It has a historic center with old traditional buildings and offers a good variety of sports and leisure facilities (swimming pool, ice skating, sauna, climbing wall, etc). La Thuile is a family-friendly resort, with alot of easy slopes and childcare facilities making it an ideal choice for families.

The town of La Thuile is split into two parts;  the old restored village and the modern Planibel complex which offers easy access to the slopes.  A free bus shuttle runs between the two areas.  The town has spectacular views of the Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Monterosa Restaurants and bars are plentiful together with a large selection of accommodation (hotels, apartments, guesthouses and B&B's etc). Skiing in La Thuile
In the village center there is an area of ​​gentle slopes, dedicated to beginners. At the top of Les Suches gondola there is an excellent blue piste.
Around Chaz Dura and Belvedere peaks, intermediate skiers have a lot to explore. For the advanced skiers superb off-pistes and the possibility of heliski.
The resort connects to the neighbouring town of La Rosiere in France where you can find over 100kms of slopes for all levels of skiing and snowboarding.
From the top of La Thuile ski area, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Mont Blanc, the french mountains Tarentaise, and the Matterhorn - Cervino at the Switzerland / Italian border.

The ski bus service between Courmayeur and La Thuile and viceversa is free with a valid multiple-days lift ticket. It runs from Christmas to the end of the ski season. You can find their timetable here.
 
Shopping in La Thuile
In the Panibel centre you can find great food and beverage shops: a good supermarket, butchers, a bakery and several grocery stores plus some charming craft shops, a cigar store, a pharmacy and sport shops with ski and mountaineering equipment.
